The Town and Setting
Yalikavak, is one of the most famous towns on the Bodrum peninsula. Once an old fisherman's village it has grown in to small town in recent years. However, thanks to the preservation efforts it has not lost its old charm. The town is neat and tidy and many aging buildings have undergone sensitive restoration and conversion to modern use, one being an old water cistern converted to a gallery displaying the works of well-known local and national painters. Another is a disused olive oil processing plant which has been refurbished and turned into an attractive souvenir shop. Besides the traditional cafes, fish restaurants and kebap houses along the coast there is also a small marina in which you can find restaurants, cafes serving international cuisine and shops selling well known international brands. The lovely beach, weekly market and excellent supermarket shopping facilities make Yalikavak town a popular place among both locals of Bodrum as well as tourists.

Active civil groups work in concert with the municipality to promote the town and at the same time to protect it from depredation by the unscrupulous, so far achieving very positive results; the environment is cared for, services are timely and the hotels and restaurants are among the best in the region.
